Craps: Three Easy Steps to Make Place Bets
I don’t know about you, but the more I learn about craps, the more I want to be part of the club. There are so many ways to bet in this classic table game, so you can really customize your play. I’m thinking of becoming that gal who always makes “Place” bets. Maybe I’ll go further against the grain and make “Place to Lose” bets; after all, it does have a lower house edge.
Place to Win
There are three simple steps to follow.
- Choose a Point number (4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10).
- In the newer Craps version at Slots.lv, there are two bars above and below the Point number on the table; the bar just below the number is for Place to Win bets. Drop chips there.
- Roll the dice until you either roll the number you bet on, or a 7.
If you re-roll the number you selected before a 7, you win. In that way, it’s similar to the Pass Line bet, where you have to re-roll the Point number before sevening out, but you have a bit more control with the Place to Win bet. You can remove the bet after putting it down, place the bet before the Come Out roll and pick your own number.
And the number you pick will say a lot about your gambling style. Each number (4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10) has a different probability of being rolled, so you can bet conservatively or aggressively – and be paid accordingly.
Winning a Place to Win Bet on the 4 or 10 pays: 9:5 (bet $10, win $18)
Winning a Place to Win Bet on the 5 or 9 pays: 7:5 (bet $10 win $14)
Winning a Place to Win Bet on the 6 or 8 pays: 7:6 (bet $12 win $14)
Place to Lose
In true craps fashion, every bet has its counterpart, and the Place to Win bet is no exception. You can go for the Place to Lose bet if you’d rather bet that the 7 will be rolled before the number you selected. This bet is located on the bar just above the Point number.
Winning a Place to Lose Bet on the 4 or 10 pays: 5:11
Winning a Place to Lose Bet on the 5 or 9 pays: 5:8
Winning a Place to Lose Bet on the 6 or 8 pays: 4:5
So there you have it – my new favorite bet. If you see someone exclusively placing these wagers at the casino, say hello because it’ll probably be me.
